I’m putting in a cat door for my buddy, but I’ve personally only had critters of the canine variety.
Any advice on what cats like / don’t like in a door? Any suggestions? If I go for the general “pet door,” is there anything that will scare or inconvenience the felines?
A couple I’ve looked at:

p.s. Interesting that Kinja adds in the “Gawker Media may get a commission” thing when you paste an Amazon link.

If it’s an indoor only access, use a nice thin flappy door, that doesn’t necessarily “close” the opening. My last cat was not a fan of mild resistance on her door.

Thanks Doc, for helping cure my ignorance.

All my clients with cats that have cat doors use the top kind you posted. Lockable. A couple even had the kind that only open with a magnetic tag to keep unwanted critters out.

A bit late in replying, bit I’ve got a Sureflap microchip controlled cat flap, reads Max’s chip in his neck and only lets him in. Sure you must be able to get it (or similar) in the US, works brilliantly, never had any of the local cats dropping by for a visit!

That’s very clever (especially reading his chip). Thanks for the tip!
